Mercedes-Benz boasts the C-Class to be the most popular and widely sold model from the German stable. Last month, Mercedes-Benz revealed the 2019 C-Class with minor updates and now, Mercedes-AMG has revealed the updated C43 variant with AMG power. With debut set to take place at the Geneva Motor Show, the C43 AMG 4Matic takes on the likes of Audi S5 and BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo among others. In India, Mercedes-AMG launched the C43 in 2016 and retails at a price of ₹ 74.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Mercedes-Benz will showcase the C43 AMG 4Matic at the Geneva Motor Show.
“As the most successful model series for Mercedes-AMG, the C-Class family in all its facets has made a major contribution to our corporate success. One major component in this success story was the implementation of the 43-series models, which have thrilled our customers worldwide since the market launch in 2015. The high demand and positive feedback have encouraged us to sharpen up not only the appearance of the facelift, but also its performance, efficiency and dynamism in true AMG style,” says Tobias Moers, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
In terms of design, the exterior of C43 4Matic is more expressive than some of its siblings in the C-Class range. New distinguishing features include the AMG radiator grille with twin louvre in matt iridium silver and the front apron with additional flics. The side air curtains in the front apron, attachment on the cross fins plus the trim element on the front splitter are finished in silver chrome. At the rear, the two round twin tailpipe trim elements in high-gloss chrome gives a sporty look. The spoiler lip on the boot lid is painted in the vehicle color. The optional AMG styling package has a more expressive front splitter, with the standard-fit spoiler lip, broader side skirt inserts and flics in the rear bumper are finished in high-gloss black.
In profile, the C43 4Matic sports side skirts plus new AMG light-alloy wheels; this was optimized in the wind tunnel, improving air flow around the wheels. The standard specification includes the AMG wheel with five twin spokes painted in tremolite grey with a high-sheen finish, with 225/45 R 18 tyres at the front, and 245/40 R 18 tyres at the rear. As option, there is another design with five twin spokes, painted in tantalite grey, high-gloss black or matt black with a high-sheen finish, with 225/40 R 19 tyres at the front, and 255/35 R 19 tyres at the rear.
On the inside, the upholstery is in Artico man-made leather or Dinamica microfiber in black with red topstitching. Matching the seat design, the door centre panels and dashboard are finished in Artico man-made leather with red topstitching. Aluminum sports pedals with black studs, trim elements in black piano lacquer with light longitudinal-grain aluminum, the black roof liner and the red seat belts create further sporty highlights. The fully digital instrument cluster with 12.3-inch screen diagonal comes with three AMG-specific display styles of ‘Classic’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Supersport’.\
Under the hood of the C43 AMG 4Matic is the AMG 3.0-litre V6 bi-turbo engine that churns out maximum power output of 385 bhp, mated to AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission and rear-biased AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive. Moreover, Mercedes also offers the Dynamic select drive programs which includes ‘Comfort’, ‘Sport’, ‘Sport+’ and ‘Individual’ to choose from. That’s not all. The drivers also get the option of pressing the ‘M’ button to switch directly to manual mode, in which gearshifts are executed exclusively using the shift paddles.
