With the new Hyundai Le Fil Rouge concept car, the South Korean carmaker previews its future design language, riding on the theme – ‘Sensuous Sportiness’, which will be embodied by all future Hyundai vehicles, ranging from sedans to SUVs.

Hyundai has finally pulled the wraps off its all-new Le Fil Rouge’ concept car at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. With the new concept car, the South Korean carmaker gives us a glimpse of its future design language. Going into the etymology of the name, Hyundai Motor explains that the direct translation of ‘Le Fil Rouge’ is common Thread and the new Le Fil Rouge Concept reflects the company’s belief that the brand’s past, present and future designs are all connected. The new concept is an introduction to the brand’s latest approach in design – the ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ theme, which will be embodied by all future Hyundai vehicles, ranging from sedans to SUVs.

Talking about the new Hyundai Le Fil Rouge concept, Luc Donckerwolke, Executive Vice President and head of Hyundai Design Centre said, “Le Fil Rouge is a reinterpretation of Hyundai’s design DNA that originated from the brand’s historical Hyundai Coupe Concept in 1974. Building on our long history of creating a distinctive and sporty character in vehicles, we will open a new era for Hyundai design.”

The company says that the design mission is defined by the harmony between four fundamental elements: proportion, architecture, styling and technology. In those regards, the new Hyundai Le Fil Rouge concept car comes with a sporty flowing stance achieved with a long wheelbase, large wheels and short overhangs. The Le Fil Rouge concept is built on a new platform, which Hyundai calls Light Architecture, offering a dynamic look with a forward motion effect. The front and the rear pillars, as well as the roof, are seamlessly blended into the overarching silhouette of the car – as though the car is drawn with a single line.

Le4

Styling wise the concept car looks quite distinctive with its wide, layered front hood, combined with a further enhanced Cascading Grille that comes with a three-dimensional treatment, featuring parametric jewels inside, which gives the vehicle a commanding presence.

Le5

As for the technology part, Hyundai says that the Le Fil Rouge concept’s design is inspired by aircraft ventilation, as a two-way air ventilation system blows air over the curved surface of lightweight tube architecture. Furthermore, the carmaker has made extensive use of wood and high-tech fabrics throughout the concept, while a panoramic floating display coupled with haptic technology takes the centre stage, providing access to intuitive controls for climate control and other vehicle configurations.
