The Citroen C5 Aircross is designed with a key focus of offering the best of practicality and comfort. The SUV will go on sale in Europe in 2018-end.
French carmaker Citroen has pulled the wraps off its all-new compact SUV – C5 Aircross, which has been designed for the European markets. The company says that the main focus behind the new Citroen C5 Aircross was to make a C-SUV that offers the best of practicality and comfort. The Citroen C5 Aircross SUV is set to be built at the car manufacturer’s Rennes factory in France, and the SUV is slated to go on sale in Europe towards the end of 2018.
Visually, the SUV comes with a bold character with sharp, boxy design features and sharp styling. Up front, the SUV comes with the distinctive Citroen logo that extends on either side to make one wide single design element with LED DRLs at both ends. Below that the SUV comes with a sleek black grille with chrome accents and twin-pod LED projector headlamps on both sides. The lower half of the well-sculpted bumper comes with black cladding with trapezoidal red inserts bordering the air intakes, with a pair of small, round foglamps placed below them. The plastic cladding runs along the profile of the SUV with the same red trapezoidal design element. The top-spec model of the C5 Aircross comes with a stylish set of 19-inch wheels, while the lower models come with the either the 17- or 18-inch wheels also on offer. The rear end feature a pair of distinctive wraparound LED taillamps, spoiler and rear skid plate and dual exhaust ports.
The Citroen C5 Aircross is 4500 mm in length and comes with a spacious cabin suited for five individuals. The SUV is also claimed to come with a superior modularity function, thus the second row features individual seats that come with sliding/reclining function offering a boot capacity ranging from 570-litre to 1,630-litre. The SUV also features cubby holes and storage spaces around the cabin to offer a better sense of space. The new C5 Aircross also comes with 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen, plus 20 latest-generation driver assistance technologies. These include Highway Driver Assist, a level-two autonomous driving system, as well as six advanced connectivity technologies. The new, ultra-connected model can be equipped with Wireless Smartphone Charging and ConnectedCAM Citroen.
For superior driving comfort, the SUV comes with the Citroen Advanced Comfort programme which includes aspects – Progressive Hydraulic Cushions system and Advanced Comfort seats. The former uses hydraulic buffers at either end of the suspension setup to provide what Citroen describes as a “magic carpet ride.” The Advanced Comfort seats, on the other hand, include specially-designed upholstery that offers a soft and warm appearance for enhanced comfort.
Powering the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV is a set of high-performance petrol and diesel engines ranging from 130 bhp to 180 bhp, which come mated to the Citroen brand’s new EAT8 automatic gearbox as standard. New Citroen C5 Aircross will be the first Citroen available with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology at the end of 2019.
